Moving day for Mirabeau B Sales Center

The life of the Mirabeau B Sales Center was to be temporary from the start… according to COH permitting. Monday we had the big crane and truck out for moving day.

Weighing in a 11,000 pounds the PV powered container needed some counterweight on the crane… Mission construction’s backhoe scoop provided the heft.

The containers new temporary home is at Campo Sheet Metal’s new shop space.  Hopefully we’ll be fabricating more SPACE’s in this monumental space in the near future…

EcoFriend likes our “GreenBOX”

“We have seen condos and housing concepts based on shipping containers with the idea to recycle these bulky cast-off containers. Putting them to use is not too novel. However, powering up the whole set up with solar energy is the focus.”

Mirabeau B vs. IKE

Our solar panels were folded up before IKE blew 80 mph winds through the ‘hood

After the storm we emerged from our bunkers… PV panels and even the SIGNS intact and ready to be unfolded.

Mirabeau B Sales Center is online

That’s Joey Romano of Harvest Moon Development/Mirabeau B, our good client, and I soaking up 1400W of sunlight.

The Mirabeau B. Sales Center, designed by Metalab, was to open Tuesday Sept. 2, offering a model for the sustainability of the condos.

“The thinking involved is how we want people to see Mirabeau B.,” Romano said.

Constructed out of repurposed shipping containers, the sales center demonstrates the concept of “upcycling, having things that improve as their life goes on rather than get reduced as they get moved on,” Romano said.

Solar panels on the roof can fold shut at night or during bad weather, said Andrew Vrana from Metalab.

“We would like to further develop this as a solution,” he said. “People could have one of these made and put in their backyard and supplement their energy with solar power.”

Mobile solar power generator

Our racking for the containers is designed to handle up to 30 solar panels. This would provide enough power to run a typical residence from the backyard.
